In 2025, the Russian fisheries industry retained a significant volume of production and a stable position in the domestic and foreign markets. The turnover of fishery enterprises exceeded 1.2 trillion rubles, and the profit amounted to 206 billion rubles.
The catch of Russian fishermen in all fishing areas at the end of the year amounted to 4.7 million tons. This is slightly lower than the level of 2024, when 4.9 million tons were harvested. The decrease is due, among other things, to a change in the migration of the ivasi sardine, due to which there were practically no commercial aggregations of this species in Russian waters.
At the same time, the industry showed noticeable results in a number of areas. The pollock catch exceeded 2.1 million tons, which was a record for the past 25 years. Thus, Russia retains first place in the world in the production of this species. The development of herring reached 596 thousand tons - this is a record figure for the modern history of the herring fishery. The production of Pacific salmon amounted to about 335 thousand tons, which is 40% higher than the result of 2024.
The volume of production of fish products reached 4.135 million tons, while 34.2% accounted for products with a high degree of processing.
In aquaculture in 2025, according to VARPE, 393.3 thousand tons of products were produced, which is 3.3% more year-on-year. In the structure of production, 37.6% accounted for carp and herbivorous species, 36.3% for salmonids, 20.2% for valuable aquatic organisms, including oysters, mussels, scallops, other mollusks and echinoderms.
Fish consumption in Russia reached 25.8 kg per person per year, and the level of self-sufficiency in fish products was 122.8%. At the same time, about 48% of products in the total structure of production are exported, and 52% are sent to the domestic market.

At the end of 2025, Russia exported 2.1 million tons of fish products worth $6.1 billion, the volume of imports amounted to 718 thousand tons.
The key destinations for the supply of Russian fish were China, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Belarus, Japan, Kazakhstan and Nigeria. Thus, export supplies occupy a significant share in the structure of the industry (about 48%), while a significant volume of products falls on the domestic market.
The fish and seafood market in 2025 is developing against the backdrop of growing interest in more consumer-friendly formats and the expansion of the range in retail. According to a joint study by AKORT and the Fish Union, sales of fish products in retail chains increased by an average of 4% in physical terms. Among the categories that were in the greatest demand among buyers were chilled and frozen trout, pollock, shrimp, pink salmon and herring.
Among the key market trends is the growing interest in fish products with a higher degree of processing: fillets, semi-finished products and ready meals occupy an increasingly prominent place in the structure of demand. Against this background, interest in salmon remains, and pollock strengthens its position as a mass product that combines affordability and convenience of cooking. At the same time, federal chains are expanding their offer in the categories of frozen fish products and ready meals.
The segment of ready-made fish food deserves special attention. The Analytical Center of the Fish Union recorded that in the period from 2022 to 2024, the sale of ready-made fish dishes increased by more than 800% both in physical and monetary terms. At the same time, experts consider the ready-to-eat segment as one of the most promising areas for further growth.
For manufacturers, suppliers, processors and distributors of fish products, WorldFood Moscow remains one of the key B2B platforms for working with a professional audience of buyers.
